Here are some simple ideas of how to reduce, reuse and recycle at home:

  • If your council collects recycling from your doorstep – take advantage;

  • Make recycling part of your weekly supermarket trip. Find out where your nearest
    facilities are using the bank locator in this guide and remember to drop before
    you shop;

  • You can get your unwanted items reused with the Freecycle Network just list them on your local Freecycle page, be prepared to give them someone for free and they'll probably collect your item from where you live. Click on the Freecycle link to join a Freecycle Network in your area. Freecycle is also a great way of finding items you need that someone else would normally throw away;

  • When you go shopping choose refills for products that offer them e.g. fabric
    conditioner, air fresheners, this will help to reduce the amount of rubbish you produce;

  • Say NO to plastic carrier bags at the supermarket till - use reusable/‘bags for life’ next time you visit;

  • Ask your supermarket if they recycle your old carrier bags - Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons and Somerfield all have collection points in a number of their stores;

  • Ditch cling film and foil and store food in re-sealable containers instead;

  • Buy milk in returnable glass bottles, instead of plastic bottles;

  • Invest in rechargeable batteries to reduce rubbish and save cash;

  • Choose re-useable varieties of goods such as nappies and hankies, rather than
    disposable ones. Contact the All Wales Real Nappy Advice Line – 0845 456 2477,
    for more information about Real nappies and to find your nearest cloth nappy agent;
