Reuse at School: Get crafty!
- Turn off-cuts of card, coloured paper and old magazines into something beautiful by reusing them in Art and Design Technology lessons.
Reuse at the shops
The weekly trip to the supermarket often means coming home with armfuls of bags and all that plastic soon adds up.
Every week each person uses an average of 9 plastic carrier bags - each one of these plastic bags takes 500 years to decay in a landfill site.
You can cut down on your carriers by following these simple tips:
- Take canvas shopping bags with you – they’re reusable, sturdy and stylish and they wont split on you. Bags can be for life
– most supermarkets now offer ‘bags for life’ as a hard wearing alternative to carriers. Best of all you’ll get a free replacement when they finally do wear out; - Give them a second chance – carrier bags can be used over and over again;
- Store them in your car so you don’t forget them;
- Many supermarkets now offer special recycling banks for carrier bags so that you can drop the off when they do wear out.
In the Garden: Green fingered gardening
- Make use of everyday household items in the garden – egg cartons and yoghurt pots are great for planting seedlings and plastic bottles make perfect propagators.
