How can you help?
It’s easy to make a difference and here are just a few suggestions to get you started:
- Take your unwanted clothes to a textile recycling bank. Contact the waste officer in your local council to find out how you can recycle your textiles – if there are no banks in your area they may collect textiles through other means;
- Give old clothes, shoes, handbags etc to local charity shops or jumble sales. You can find your nearest Charity shop by visiting the Association of Charity Shops website at http://www.charityshops.org.uk/
- Remember to tie shoes together – part of the 6% of textiles which is wastage for merchants are single shoes;
- Buy second-hand clothes – you can find a real gem in your local charity shop and often pick up some unusual period pieces. Remember, its not just your wardrobe you’ll be benefiting if you buy from a charity shop – you will also be doing your bit for a good cause;
- Buy classic items you are likely to wear for a long time. There is no reason why a true style queen (or king) can also be a green one if items are chosen carefully;
- Buy cloth wipers instead of disposable paper products as the product can be used repeatedly;
Reuse at Work:
Make your envelopes go further
- Give your envelopes a new life by using an envelope reuse label that sticks over the old address and allows you to write a new one over the top;
- Use your old envelopes to send internal mail in.
