Love Food Hate Waste
What a waste!
Some of this waste is made up of things like peelings, cores and bones, but the majority is, or once was, perfectly good food that should have been eaten.
What’s the problem?
Aside from the obvious waste of resources and money, if this food waste ends up in landfill it decomposes and produces powerful greenhouse gases.
90% of us just don’t realise how much good food we throw out.
That’s why Waste Awareness Wales is promoting the "Love Food Hate Waste" campaign to help reduce the amount of good food that is being thrown away by households across the country.
Food waste collections and Home composting
The best thing that can happen to food is that it makes it to our plates and is enjoyed, however some food waste is inevitable.
Egg shells, banana skins and tea bags are never going to be on the menu.
If you live in an area that has a local kerbside collection service for food waste, you can use this to dispose of anything you can’t eat.
If you do not yet have a food waste collection service you can home compost certain elements of your food waste such as vegetable peelings, fruit cores, teabags and egg shells.
