So what do can you do about the items that you can't recycle via your kerbside collection at home? - this could be stuff you may normally throw away! The answer is don’t throw it in the bin but take it to your local recycling centre.  Some of us also call them the dump or the tip - they are the same thing!

These items are usually piled up in a cupboard, garage, loft or garden shed and have been sitting there forever until you decide what to do with them.  You don't have to dump these into landfill as lots of items can be recycled or re-used at your nearest recycling centre.

HWRC SignItems you can recycle at your recycling centre include:

  • Small electrical appliances i.e. hairdryers, razors, irons, radios and CD players.
  • TV's and white goods such as fridges
  • If your council has one, media banks accept books, CD's, DVD's and VHS
  • Wood, batteries, textiles, garden waste, metals, used cooking oil and much more.

Items you can donate at recycling centres that can be re-used include:
