You can take your batteries to most household waste recycling centres and most supermarkets now have collection points too. Some councils also offer a kerbside recycling service - check with your council to see if they do.

• Around 600 million UK household batteries (22,000 tonnes) – the equivalent weight of 110 Jumbo Jets – are sent to landfill unnecessarily every year

Most household batteries can be recycled including:

• all AAA and AA cells;
• sizes C and D;
• button batteries (e.g. watch batteries);
• mobile phone batteries; and
• laptop batteries
