Welsh residents are being urged to ‘talk rubbish’ about what happens to their waste. Householders can go online to tell the Welsh Assembly Government what they think about new proposals about how rubbish could be collected across Wales.

The Waste Awareness Wales campaign (WAW) is backing the plan to get more ordinary people involved in the discussion, which also involves stakeholders such as local authorities. WAW’s Head of Waste Support Rachel Jowitt said:Household Waste Collection (bordered)

"When it comes down to the services our local authorities provide its often what they do with our rubbish that people care about the most, which is why this consultation is so important.

"I know that people feel really strongly about things like what they can and can’t throw away and how often their bins get emptied. That’s why Waste Awareness Wales is telling people if this is something you care about now is the time to have your say.

"If we are going to meet the challenging targets we need to and avoid paying landfill tax we are all going to have to do things differently. It is essential that plans take householders’ opinions into account, which is why we’re urging Welsh residents to log on to share your views."

Environment Minister Jane Davidson launched Wales’ new waste plan Towards Zero Waste on 21 June with the opening of the consultation on the Municipal Sector Plan on how councils will deal with household waste. The consultation is available at www.wales.gov.uk/consultations/environmentandcountryside/municipalsector/?skip=1&lang=en and is open until 13 September 2010.
