Following the success of initial work carried out by the two organisations at the Royal Welsh Show in 2006, this year sees additional events pledge to put recycling top of their waste management agenda.
Recycling facilities for cans, plastic bottles and other items will be located around each site and for anyone wanting further information or advice, recycling wardens will be on hand at all events to answer any queries.
In an attempt to further increase recycling rates, several of the events have additional recycling facilities for those people staying overnight at the event. Recycling sites collecting plastic bottles and cans, amongst other materials, will be located at various camping sites.
Councillor Richard Parry Hughes, chairperson for Waste Awareness Wales, commented:
"Working closely alongside our partners enabled us to make a real difference at last year’s Royal Welsh Show so I sincerely hope we’ll be able to repeat that success with other events across the country this year.
"Introducing the simplest of changes, such as ensuring biodegradable packaging is used by caterers on site, can make such a big difference and so the purpose of this joint venture is to make organisers aware of these techniques and to encourage them to improve their recycling rates."
